Spring Pole Lathe

This is a Spring Pole Lathe that I build with Roy Underhill, from The Woodwright’s Shop tv show on PBS, during a class he taught at the Northwest Woodworking Studio in July 2008.

  1. Nice lathe

  2. Very cool! Did you make it entirely with handtools?

  3. Yes, we did. Gary Rogowski found some really nice Souther Yellow Pine (which we don’t find often in the Northwest). The boards were cut to rough size and we did everything else by hand. Roy wouldn’t let us do it any other way.

  4. Lathe looks nice….haven’t heard from Roy lately…been wondering what he’s been up to. Is his show still on ? I bought some episodes years ago on VHS and vowed to buy them all should they ever be offered on DVD. He’s really an important person in the hand tool movement/resurgence.
